Love solving problems? Enjoy hands-on technical work? Then this could be the perfect opportunity for you!

We’re looking for an Assistant Signalling & Point Care Technician to join our team, helping to keep signalling systems and point heating equipment safe, reliable and ready for the people who rely on Metro services every day.

In this safety-critical role, you will assist with maintenance, fault finding, repair and installation of signalling and associated systems across the network. You’ll help ensure infrastructure is working correctly, safely and in line with standards — keeping services running smoothly for our customers and communities.
Keep the Metro moving – join our Signalling & Point Care Team!

Typical Day
  • Get hands-on with fault finding, testing, maintenance and repair of signalling and point heating equipment.
  • Support planned preventative maintenance and inspections to keep systems performing at their best.
  • Assist with installation, refurbishment and renewal of signalling and associated infrastructure.
  • Use remote monitoring systems and technical information to identify faults and prevent failures.
  • Work across the network, responding to issues and supporting operational priorities.
  • Keep accurate records of work, materials and activity using Nexus systems.
  • Work independently at times, using your initiative to make safe, informed decisions.
  • Use specialist tools, plant and equipment safely and responsibly.
About You
  • You’ll have a Level 3 qualification in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent) and a solid understanding of electrical systems.
  • You’ll have experience of fault finding in electrical and mechanical systems.
  • You’ll be confident working both independently and as part of a team, making decisions and prioritising work safely.
  • You’ll understand the importance of safety, accuracy and working in live operational environments.
  • Attention to detail? Tick. Problem-solving mindset? Tick. Full UK driving licence? Definitely tick.
  • You’ll also be comfortable using IT systems and completing accurate maintenance records.
Previous railway signalling experience would be great — but it’s not essential, as full training will be provided.
