Access for all
Safety and accessibility on our bus network
We're looking out for you
Safety and security
We want people to feel safe when they are travelling and waiting at the bus stop.
We have:
- CCTV in bus shelters across Tyne & Wear and are investing in new units this year
- CCTV in our major interchanges and are investing further in new systems at Heworth, Jarrow, Concord, South Shields and Park Lane.
- Dedicated security teams working at major interchanges until late at night to help customers feel safe
- An exclusion order policy in place and take steps to ban individuals who are abusive to staff or customers
- Strong relationships with the police and community safety officers to target areas where there are problems
Autism Friendly
We have received the Autism Friendly Award from the National Autistic Society for our work in supporting people with autism when they travel with us.
We know that travelling can be stressful at time, and this can especially be the case for neurodiverse people.
Our guide can be used to help prepare you or someone you travel with for their journey on buses.

Bridge Cards
If you need additional support when you’re travelling, you can use a Bridge Card, which tells transport staff what they can help you with.
If you have difficulty using public transport because of age, disability, illness, or you simply lack confidence, you can carry a Bridge Card.
When you show the card to bus drivers or transport staff in stations and interchanges they will recognise that you may need extra help during your journey. You don’t have to register for the scheme. You just have to carry a card and show it to staff if you need help. Find out more here: Bridge Card | nexus.org.uk UPDATED LINK NEEDED
