New Travel North East website launched
The new Travel North East site – www.travelnortheast.uk – went live this week as part of Mayor Kim’s commitment to transform regional connectivity. It marks the first time that essential information on bus, Metro, Shields Ferry and local rail services will be available all in one single online hub for the whole region.
Mayor Kim said: “Local people in the North East deserve nothing less than an affordable world-class integrated public transport network – one that gives access to real opportunity. To have that access, people need a simple, easy to use tool to help them plan their journeys to get to those opportunities.
“This new website offers one central place for journey information and to find support, making lives easier for people, especially those that travel day in, day out across our region.”
The new journey planner that is built into the site takes in travel information from multiple modes, across County Durham, Northumberland and Tyne and Wear. This will make it easier for people to plan journeys at the touch of a button.
The site has been designed to be user-friendly and easy to navigate and has considered consumer feedback from the Nexus Insight Panel. And it is fully responsive to mobile devices, making it easy to access with a smartphone.
Other key features include ticketing information, news pages, a contact section and updates and tips for getting to key regional events along with an events section to provide journey inspiration and ideas for days out.
This new website will replace the existing Nexus website in Tyne and Wear with all transport information moving over to Travel North East and a new corporate website for Nexus in its place.
Cathy Massarella, Managing Director of Nexus, said: “We’re also really excited to be unveiling a completely revamped corporate Nexus website this week. This website provides an overview of who we are, project updates, latest news and how we are performing, as well as information on opportunities to work with us or for us.
“This is the biggest change to our online site in 15 years. It will provide all the latest corporate information from Nexus, and will also promote and direct people to the new Transport North East website where people can access public transport information and plan their journeys.”
