We’re excited to offer an opportunity to join the Renewals team in the Major Projects Directorate. We’re looking for a Project Officer to help deliver a variety of important engineering and architectural transport projects while working with third parties to provide guidance and facilitate safe access for activities taking place on or near Nexus infrastructure. 

 You’ll have a relevant qualification or experience in engineering, surveying, or project management. You’ll bring solid project management experience, good contract and programme awareness, and a strong sense of motivation and pride in your work. You’ll also have excellent relationship building skills, clear communication abilities, and experience working with key internal and external stakeholders. In this role, you’ll manage competing priorities, negotiate outcomes, and act as a key link between stakeholders, project teams, and the wider business.

Typical Day
 
  • Every day can be different when working on large scale projects, however a typical day could include: 
  • Reviewing project plans, progress updates, and priorities with the Project Manager to ensure project activities remain on track. 
  • Coordinating project work packages, monitoring deadlines, budgets, risks, and quality requirements. 
  • Managing approval processes for technical, financial, and commercial documentation, ensuring records are accurate and approvals are obtained in a timely manner. 
  • Organising, chairing, and facilitating project meetings, preparing agendas, distributing papers, and recording actions and decisions. 
  • Liaising with contractors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders to gather information, resolve issues, and support project delivery. 
  • Monitoring project activities through site visits, inspections, or progress reviews, ensuring work is being delivered as planned. 
  • Reviewing project expenditure and supporting the assessment and processing of payment applications. 
  • Preparing project reports, dashboards, presentations, and updates for senior stakeholders. 
  • Ensuring all activities comply with health and safety, environmental, quality, and engineering standards. 
 About You
 
  • Educated to degree level (or equivalent) with relevant experience supporting projects, programmes, and operational workstreams. 
  • Working knowledge of project management principles, methodologies, and best practice. 
  • Experience coordinating and delivering multiple workstreams to agreed timescales, ensuring objectives are met within available resources. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with a range of stakeholders. 
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise competing demands and consistently meet demanding deadlines. 
  • Proven ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor activities while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams. 
  • Experience preparing reports, maintaining records, scheduling meetings, and supporting project governance activities. 
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify issues and implement practical solutions. 
  • Able to work independently using initiative, while also contributing effectively as part of a team. 
  • Experience in specialist administrative, project support, or project officer roles, with a track record of supporting successful project delivery.

You will join a diverse team who are passionate about project management and delivery.   There are 26 colleagues in the Renewals team, many of whom have progressed careers within Nexus whilst also recruiting new talent along the way.  You will also work alongside your Major Projects colleagues as well as other departments including Engineering, PMO, and Commercial, who together, work for the benefit of our colleagues, customers and key stakeholders.
