Nexus proud to support Peter Rabbit art trail in aid of St Oswald’s Hospice
The trail, in aid of St Oswald’s Hospice, showcases a series of colourful Peter Rabbit sculptures in Newcastle and North Tyneside, 15 July to 14 September.
A total of 96 sculptures have gone on display, inspired by the famous Beatrix Potter character.
The trail is being run by St Oswald’s – marking its 40th anniversary – and will raises vital funds for them. The hospice provides care for everyone, of all ages, who are living with a progressive, life-limiting condition, and their families and carers too.
We are proud to be a presenting partner of the trail. It supports a great local charity, helps to facilitate free family days out, and encourages people to explore the region by Metro
Metro is the ideal way for families to get out and about and spot all of the Peter Rabbit sculptures on the trail – and log them on the trail app. Kids go free all day every day on Metro and the Shields Ferry, and in school holiday times on buses, with up to three children going free with a fare paying adult.
Our Peter Rabbit statue, named ‘The dazzling tale of Peter Rabbit’, is located at Tynemouth Priory. The striking design, which includes 40,000 sequins, was designed by Yorkshire based artist Natalie Ratcliffe.
The dedicated trail app is now live and includes all of the sculptures which, when ‘unlocked’ by entering the four-digit code displayed near to them, will reveal offers and rewards. Just search ‘Tales on the Tyne’ in the App Store or Google Play to download.
The trail’s launch event featured speeches from key trail sponsors, including Newcastle City Council, Northumbrian Water and NorthStandard. Charlie Langhorne, Director and Co-founder of Wild in Art, the trail’s creative producers, then joined pupils from St Aidan’s Catholic Primary School in Wallsend and The Bostey to officially declare the trail open.
The 43 larger sculptures were all designed by artists and most will be auctioned in October to raise money for St Oswald’s.
The 53 smaller sculptures were created by schools and youth groups. They will be returned to them following the trail has ended in September.
The printed trail map and sticker book is available to purchase at The Space by St Oswald’s Hospice in Ouseburn.
The Peter Rabbit trail follows the success of the Great North Snowdogs in 2016, Elmer’s Great North Parade in 2019 and Shaun on the Tyne in 2023.
