Bus Infrastructure Electrician
Circa £29,440.29 (pay award pending)
Full time | Permanent | Closing date 11/06/2026
We’re looking for a Bus Infrastructure Electrician to join our team, helping to keep bus shelters and bus station infrastructure safe, reliable and ready for the people who use them every day across the North East.
In this non-railway, safety-critical role, you will carry out electrical repairs, testing, inspections, maintenance and certification on bus shelters and infrastructure across the North East Combined Authority area. You’ll help make sure electrical systems are working correctly, safely and in line with required standards — keeping services running smoothly for our customers and communities.
Keep the North East connected – join our Bus Infrastructure Team!
Typical Day
- Get hands-on with electrical repairs, maintenance, testing and inspections on bus shelters and bus station infrastructure.
- Travel across the NECA area, working at different locations as directed by your Leading Hand, Supervisor or Manager.
- Respond quickly and calmly to emergency repair requests — because safe, reliable infrastructure matters.
- Use technical drawings, electrical schematics and predefined criteria to understand faults and decide what needs to happen next.
- Keep accurate records of your work, materials and activity using Nexus systems.
- Work independently for periods of time, using your initiative to prioritise work and make safe decisions.
- Use specialist tools, plant, equipment and company vehicles safely and responsibly.
- Support major overhaul, new installation, testing and commissioning work when required.
- You’ll have a relevant Level 3 electrical qualification and a good understanding of electrical systems and safety regulations.
- You’ll have experience of maintenance, fault finding, installation, commissioning and repair of electrical equipment in a service industry environment.
- You’ll be confident working with electrical systems in public infrastructure and understand the importance of keeping equipment safe and reliable.
- You’ll be comfortable working on your own initiative, making decisions and prioritising work safely.
- Attention to detail? Tick. Communication skills? Tick. Full UK driving licence? Definitely tick.
- You’ll also be confident using handheld devices, mobile equipment and common office software to keep records up to date.
Who we are looking for
You must be able to work collaboratively as part of a team that lives our company values every day, supporting each other, delivering exceptional service, and creating a positive, respectful environment for colleagues and customers alike.
As a colleague within Nexus, you will take pride in delivering your best performance, respecting others and working towards team goals through collaboration, agility and embracing learning opportunities.
About Us
We’re not just maintaining infrastructure — we’re helping people get where they need to be. We care about safety, service and doing things properly. If you like solving problems, working with your hands and knowing your work makes a visible difference, you’ll feel right at home here.
