We are committed to making travelling on Metro easier and more inclusive.

Here to help

Assisted travel

Our new Metro trains have sliding steps which remove the gap between the train and the platform, plus four dedicated wheelchair bays on each train. Look for the door with the wheelchair symbol on it when you’re getting on.

If you need assistance or a wheelchair ramp when travelling on Metro, contact us by telephoning 0191 203 3666 (lines are open 6.30am to midnight) or email assistance@nexus.org.uk. Please contact us at least four hours before you travel.

Help Points are located at every station if you need to speak to a member of the Customer Service team.

Autism friendly

We have received the Autism Friendly Award from the National Autistic Society, for our work in supporting people with autism when they travel with us.

We know that travelling can be stressful at times. This can especially be the case for neurodiverse people.

Our autism friendly guide can be used to help prepare you or someone you travel with for their journey on Metro.

Additional support

Bridge Cards

If you need additional support when you’re travelling, you can use a Bridge Card, which tells transport staff what they can help you with.

If you have difficulty using public transport because of age, disability, illness, or you simply lack confidence, you can carry a Bridge Card.

When you show the card to staff they will recognise that you may need extra help during your journey. You don’t have to register for the scheme. You just have to carry a card and show it to transport staff if you need help.
