Why work experience matters
Work experience helps you make more informed choices about future careers, because:
- It’s a chance to see if the job involves what you thought it would.
- You’ll see just how many different jobs are available here, including ones you might not have considered.
- It gives you insight into all the different aspects involved in delivering public transport.
On a placement with us you’ll gain valuable hands-on experience and knowledge within a specific area, building your skills and confidence and enabling you to discover what you could enjoy doing in the world of work.
We get just as much out of it as you do too! We believe in investing in the future and growing our own talent, and that can start with work experience. And we love it when school and college students inspire us with fresh ideas and new perspectives.

Work experience applications for 2026 are now closed. We will be advertising for opportunities in summer 2027 in early 2027.

Who can apply?
Our opportunities are aimed at local college and sixth-form students, as well as those in school years 10 and 11.
We’ll ask you to provide some personal details and confirm which work experience opportunity you’re interested in. You should tell us about yourself and why you’re interested in the opportunity you’re applying for. We encourage you to read what each team placement offers and apply for any that interest you.
